We congratulate Obinna this week for passing the 2 minute multiplication club in Mad Dog Math. He is now in the 1 minute multiplication and division club.Keep up the great work!
This year, your child will be learning from the Saxon Math 3 book. Daily, the students will be drilled on reading a calendar, counting by 5's, 10's, and hundreds, recognizing time on an analog and digital clock, counting money, identifying missing numbers from patterns, and working a problem of the day. This all happens at the math meeting board. Then a lesson is presented where we work together on the homework's "A" side and the "B" side is assigned for homework. The "B" side of the homework will be corrected but not awarded a grade. Assessments are given after every five lessons which will be given as a grade and will be shown in School Dynamics.
Mad Dog Math
This program helps with speed for math facts. This will be counted as a weekly grade so please practice at home each night. The students who make great progress are the ones who study each night. Please help give your child the confidence they deserve by working with them to build successful scores. This second semester we will not have Mad Dog on Mondays. So, if 4 tests out of 4 are passed during the week, they will receive a 100%, 3 out of 4 will be given a grade of 90%, 2 out of 4 = 80%, and 1 out of 4 = 70%. I will be collecting a grade each Friday. Please check Info. Direct to view your child's grades.
"Ticket" for Mad Dog Math
In Mad Dog Math, your child is required to have a “ticket” in order to take the test each day. The ticket is homework from your child with the fact family they are on. The first time taking a new fact family test, students need to write the fact family on paper twice, study it and place it in the envelope. If a test needs to be retaken, then flash cards must be made, studied, and placed in the envelope. The envelope will be brought to school with the date the cards were made, the fact they are on, and a parent signature. If the test is needing to be retaken again, your child will study the flash cards and the parent will add the new date with another signature until the fact has been passed. If a ticket is not brought to school, a color change will occur for not being prepared unless there is a note of explanation in the STAR folder.
The purpose for this ticket is to make sure they are studying each night as they get into the 1 minute, but actually to pass the 2nd grade addition and subtraction exit skills test in preparation for 3rd grade.
The weekly grading scale for 2 minute and 1 minute clubs: 4/4 = 100%, 3/4 = 90%, 2/5 = 80%, 1/5 = 70% for effort.
